Jessica-Rose Clark

3 x Australian MMA Champion, Brazilian Jiu jitsu purple belt, MMA Fighter in the UFC | Cairns, Australia

My name is Jessica-Rose Clark, or Jessy Jess as the majority know me. I’m from Cairns, Australia and currently live in The Bay Area in California. I live the gypsy life in a camper with my 2 dogs, Blue and Dog. I am currently signed to the UFC, where I was ranked #7 in the world at 125# and now I have just moved up to 135# and am on my journey towards the championship. My sole goal in life is to use my platform to show that no matter where you come from or what your story is, you can be exactly who you want to be. I grew up very poor, living in a van for a lot of my early childhood. We didn’t have fancy toys or clothes or even a house half the time. Yet I brought myself from that, to fighting for the biggest Mixed Martial Arts organization in the world, and I’ve loved every step, even the difficult and traumatic.

I dealt with a lot of body image issues and insecurities growing up, but this was the first time in my life that I really loved and appreciate what my body was capable of doing. I entered my first bodybuilding show about a year later in 2006. I competed in the figure division and again got hooked on competing. Coming from a very competitive background, I enjoyed that sense of preparation. I competed for many years in figure, never really doing well because I didn’t really fit in that division, but there wasn’t anywhere else for me to go. Until 2011, the IFBB came out with a new division called Women’s Physique. I decided to do the first show, which was NPC Junior USA’s in Charleston, SC. I not only won my class, but I won the overall, becoming the FIRST Pro Ever in history for the IFBB Women’s Physique division. Two years later, in 2013, I also won the Inaugural Physique Olympia, and became the First Ever Ms. Olympia Women's Physique. Winning the Olympia for Women’s Physique definitely was my biggest achievement, but I think being the first to ever do this speaks a lot. Being stubborn, and sticking to my guns made me a pioneer for this sport.

GET TO KNOW THE ATHLETES

I’m a “just do it” kinda gal. I love to crack a joke, make my teammates laugh, and get straight to work

Boxing gloves, headphones, camera tripod haha

Every new fight is my proudest moment, win or lose. Especially representing my country in the biggest MMA organization in the world.

Injuries, injuries, injuries. Probably being too poor to afford food, at the start of my journey in the US, was pretty hard too.

Wait, there’s life outside the gym? I train 6-8hrs every day, and most days have 3hrs on the road getting to and from sessions. When I’m not in the gym, I’m posted up in my camper hanging out with my dogs. I love to read!
